Previous Pictures

I'm terrible at updating web pages, but here are some images that I've previously put on the front page. Remember to either rotate your phone or change the width of your browser to get an alternate picture.

Beached Sailor - April 2025

The beach was covered with Velella velella during spring break this year. These "By-the-Wind" sailors look like blue jellyfish, but they're actually hydrozoans that float and have a sail that either takes them west or east, depending on genetics.

Secret Lavatory - March 2025

I pulled into a big empty parking lot to take a picture of this guard house, but then a guy in a van swooped in and parked right next to it. I realize now from Atlas Obscura that this is the last restroom before the long drive down the hill (credit: I'm borrowing the 'Secret Lavatory' joke from AO). If you look at the alternative (narrow) picture, you'll see the cartoon fascade they put on the building when they were renovating it back in 2016.

A little sippin' sippin' - February 2025

The manzanita that we have out front is starting to flower and the bees love it.

Til the cows come home - January 2025

While on a hike through Holdener Park in Livermore, we heard some cows calling out from a hill on the other side of the fence. We were a little worried about the calves going too far down the hill, but when the rancher showed up with food, all of them charged up the hill.

Deflated Rex - November 2024

The Livermore High School Football team's supporters bought a big inflatable cowboy named Rex for the players to charge through a few years ago. Watching him get inflated is one of the best parts of the game.

Green Livermore - December 2023

I recently used this picture of Livermore in an overview talk. It comes from a hike we did up the hill next to Brushy Peak, which is in the North-East corner of town.
